Facets of the Law of Contract and the Source of Its Rules, Processes, and Traditions
§2.1THE PURPOSE OF THIS CHAPTER
Chapter 1 introduced the legal concept of contract and outlined the policies and values of contract law. This chapter covers some more fundamentals. Although much of what is said here will slowly become apparent as you study contracts, it is very helpful to have these basics explained before you begin to encounter them in cases and other materials. The chapter begins in sections 2.2 and 2.3 with a little history and theory. Sections 2.4, 2.5, and 2.6 have a brief discussion of the source of contract law and some of the structural and conceptual aspects of the legal system of which it forms part. Section 2.7 introduces Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), a statute that governs contracts for the sale of goods.
