The Reply

FRCP 7(a) permits a reply to a counterclaim and allows courts to order plaintiff to reply to allegations other than counterclaims. According to FRCP 8(d), allegations to which a reply is neither required nor permitted are considered denied or avoided, and plaintiff may contest them at trial. Under FRCP 8(d) allegations requiring responsive pleadings are deemed admitted if not denied in the reply.
